Basic Life Support

Prompt response to a medical emergency is very important, First Responders play a key role in what is termed the "Chain of Survival".

1- Early access to the emergency services DIAL 999 or 112
2- Early CPR - Chest Compressions and Rescue Breaths
3- Early use of a defibrillator to restart the heart
4- Getting to hospital and specialist medical treatment

IN A CARDIAC ARREST SURVIVAL RATE IS REDUCED BY 10% FOR EVERY MINUTE THAT GOES BY!

First responders aim to get to an emergency within the first few minutes and significantly improve survival rates.

We practice our CPR (Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation) technique using our long-suffering dummy "Little Anne".  Anne is a model of the human head and torso and allows us to practice rescue breaths, chest compressions, the use of the defibrillators and also (if something goes down the wrong way) abdominal thrusts which are used to clear an obstruction from the airways.
